Post 18 by Milo Theory (Zone BBS Addict) on Friday, 29-Jun-2007 13:23:52

I've been using FaceBook for a while now and according to my opinion, it's much more accessible than MySpace and hi5. Though, I must admit, hi5 isn't that bad.

I'm even able to access the FaceBook site from my Mobile phone. Really amazing.

And the support folks also helped me with the registration process. No hastles in that department.

GO for it: FaceBook Rocks.

A FaceBook Addict

Hey, facebook is so much better than myspace, but i got them both. Anyway, if anyone needs help with facebook or myspace verification code just let me know.

Post 23 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Thursday, 22-Nov-2007 8:50:45

I just opened a Facebook account yesterday. The Verification code's fairly easy to work out, even that garbled audio capture thing. I just use my name on it, as after all, any ol' School chums from Dorton House or NCW may wish to get in touch again, so they wouldn't recognise me under a seudonym, would they?

I don't have facebook, but one of my friends said not to bother with it, because it's not very friendly towards people with disabilities. I don't know if she meant visual impairments or phisical disabilities.

Post 26 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Saturday, 08-Dec-2007 12:25:40

It's fine with people with disabilities. Some people are just more sensitive than the rest of us, to put it nicely, so they go round snitching on Facebook, bad mouthing it so others who haven't registered yet're put right off it. I'm registered, I'm staying registered, so that's that.

Those are the people who want everything to be accessible when everything cannot be. There's ways to adapt to almost anything and you just have to make the best of it.

Hi, all. I just saw this thread. I have both Facebook and Myspace, and I'd definitely say that Facebook is far superior. Harmony, I don't know what your friends are talking about, Facebook not being friendly to folks with disabilities. It's the best social networking site I've encountered as far as accessibility and helpfulness goes. There's actually a Zone BBS group on there. Are any of you guys a part of it? I am.

Post 31 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Wednesday, 16-Jan-2008 3:59:02

I got it about September (or so) last year and am addicted! I have reunited with so many of my long-lost school friends on there; it's amazing!
I could get the audio of the visual varification thing to play when I signed up, so ended up having to get my sister to sign me up.

Hi There

I've also have facebook. I'm on it pretty frequently. I like joining the various groups. I don't care for most of the other applications that my friends try to invite me to. It's definitely more accessible than MySpace.

Post 35 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Sunday, 20-Jan-2008 19:13:55

Do you guys get a lot of spam on facebook? I am dealing with that on myspace now and it's a pain which is why I like Facebook much better. So far I haven't gotten any.

Post 36 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 20-Jan-2008 22:54:27

Spam? Of what nature? I'm on both Facebook and Myspace, and haven't gotten spam from either one.

Post 37 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Sunday, 20-Jan-2008 23:28:18

I had things post as me on bulletins and on people's profiles, but this is only on myspace.

I have facebook, and I love it! except for the fact, that they keep on saying they will disable my account if i dont join a school netwerk sonishly. problem with that is, they dont have a JR netwerk. = Junior High. Because how my school fucked me over, i am in JR. so I'd need to join a JR netwerk, but they dont have it. any ideas on that?

but bsides that i love it. I have myspace to, and its not so bad. but then again, i have some cite so i am able to do things that need vition for.

love regards,
Morgan.

You could join a regional network, or if you know what high school you are going to, try joining it.

I've got facebook, and love it.

Post 42 by Timber (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 16-Nov-2009 15:49:27

Hi to everyone,

I thought I wouldn't get through this thread! :O

A few points!

Regarding audio varification, I can't remember, if I encounter it when I first signed up, perhaps not, seem to remember, that, I had some sighted help from my family, unlike me, as, I am good at computers, and am going to wrote an article on facebook, for a Blindess computer association soon, the "BCAB" - www.bcab.org.uk Actually, if anyone has any ideas about what I should say as an introduction to facebook I'd be extremely grateful, I am of course, got my own ideas too! LOL But this audio capture, till the last week or so, has hardly hardly affected me, but now it has, I can normally managed, but on the whole at any rate, I am a skilled computer user!

Now, the group, if it still exists, I would like to join, only thing is, I am to join myself, not invited or setting up, but joining oneself, in "too many groups", as facebook as set a limit in the last year/18 months of 200 groups, but this doesn't apply to being invitations plus one's own groups on facebook, I can understand why this was brought in, but off-line groups, on Yahoo, Google and the like, don't have the rule, obviously common sense don't join too many, I found out about this via an exstensive Google search. Now, I don't apart from a few Zone users, who either went to Dorton House/Dorton College, know any zoners that well, and anyway, I don't know if they're on the facebook group! So, could some one add me, my E-Mail address I used for facebook is:-
bimme.byrcg@btinternet.com
or facebook (directly):-
www.facebook.com/timothybamber

Finally, I didn't know one had to join a school network, is that still true, heard other "horror" stories like this, I am in a university netowrk, though for reasons I won't go into, might very soon have to leave it, and I am in the London (UK) network, so, I guess, I'll be fine, but, if any former Dortonians (school or college) are on here, which, I know a few are, (correct me if I'm wrong) but as of earlier this year, I seearched, and can't find, Dorton House, Dorton College, or the Royal London Society for The Blind (The charity behind the school [metaphorically not literally)!

BAnyway, that'll be it, thinking I'd covered it all on the other "Facebook" thread, and I note, a lot of these posts (apart from the last few) are from over 2 years ago, so, things might have changed since then), but, please see my posts on the other "Facebook" thread!

Thanks,
Timothy Bamber or "Timber" (User No. 7902)!

i find it irritating that now people's status updates sometimes show up out of order on my fb home page.

Post 44 by Timber (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 16-Nov-2009 17:13:40

Hi again,

I noticed by chance, while being off line, I forgot to finish a sentense, but, I was trying to say this! LOL

Unless anyone, from Dorton (in whichever part) who is on the zone knows differently, there isn't a network for Dorton House, or Dorton College, or the parent charity the "RLSB" (Royal London Society for the Blind)!

I was hurrying previously, as, I was thinking as I typed, oh dear, about to run out of room, when in fact, I was about half, (a bit more than half actually) way to the maximum character limit!

Sorry for my mess here, and I hope that clears it up, plus, I apologise for all my typos (in any message I've sent this evening)! :O

Kind regards,
Timber

Hello,

I have forgotten to add, that, although I have a MySpace account, never really got used to it, so facebook is I would echo previous comments, is I'd agree much better than MySpace!

Oh dear, my ear infection has affected my balance, but I didn't think my memory! LOL;/:O

Kind regards,
Timber

Post 46 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Tuesday, 17-Nov-2009 19:48:00

You can get by without joining a network. I left my school network because it would be too easy for random people to find me in such small networks. I haven't found a way to leave or change the regional network. Last I heard, Facebook no longer has them. I guess I'm stuck with my current regional network for now.

if you search live, it should take you to where it says, view live feed, followed by the number of items. I think there's a way to set it as default, but you might have to borrow a pair of eyes.

There are a couple of accessibility groups. Not a lot seems to be happening even though have a lot of members. Maybe we can revive them.

If you have an accessible phone, you can have FB send a code via text message, and it will get rid of your captchas.

Post 48 by Timber (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 18-Nov-2009 16:39:20

Hello again to All on this board, :O

Interesting enough, I am still in my regional network, whichis London (UK), I say interesting, because I did hear somewhere (can't recall where) Facebook was to do away with the networks, but, all I can add further, is some places, my regional network that I just alluded to "London" plus my University network, (which I'll probably be leaving soon anyway, due to the dificulties with my course, meaning I'll have to leave) I.E. Kings College London (my VI school in Kent (Dortn isn't on there), still show up in some places, but not in others my experience is, so, very weird! LOL

Best wishes to everyone,
Timber

Post 49 by Timber (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 14-Dec-2009 12:49:38

Hello All,

This topic seems to have gone quiet since I last post, well, was the last to post on here, but just thought I'd report, certainly in the UK< facebook has now (in their not so infinite wisdom) removed regional networks, terrible, 'cos, as, I might not be able to continue at University for long, I might soon be in no networks at all, the Blind school in England I attended, is not listed as a network, nor the related college for that matter isn't neither, not in a job yet so no workplace network, so, that'll leave 0 networks soon into the New Year for me! :( Oh never mind, but just thought I pass on this sad development, heard that FB were going to remove netowrks, as early as the middle of last year (2008), and 18 months on, it has happened, well, so far, regional ones only have gone, they've tried to simplify their privacy procedures, which, if you haven't logged in the last week, you will be forced to fill in a form, to either keep your "old" settings or adjust them in ways you couldn't before, and one of the ways they've "simplified" it, is to remove reginal networks, so LOndon UK, or the various ones any of you from America were on, and anyone else in the world, have now all been scrubbed! I'm not happy with htis change, one bit, as, you might have gathered! :O/LOL

OK just thought I'd update one and all, on the latest Facebook change, that word isn't strong enough, maybe a "fundimental revision", can't think of the equivalent change on her in magnitude, and I won't tempt fate! LOLOLOL/:(

Kind regards to all for the up-coming time of year, I'll be away from a week from now, till a week after on Tuesday 29th of December! Least something I can enjoy more than facebook's changes, mega changes!

Timothy Bamber

LOL/:)
